One of the newest workout systems to sweep the nation is the TRX Suspension Trainer™, but what is it? What does TRX stand for, and why has it become so popular? These are a few of the questions we often hear at Kennedy Fitness: A Jefferson Health Affiliate.

In the article below, we’ll answer a few of the most common questions we get asked about TRX Suspension Training®, so you can have the information and confidence you need to begin performing hundreds of new strength and mobility exercises at your local Kennedy Fitness location.

What is Suspension Training?

TRX Suspension Training® is a workout that was developed by the Navy SEALs as an alternative to traditional weight training. During a TRX workout, an individual uses his or her body weight, leveraged against gravity using straps attached to the TRX Suspension Trainer™, to perform a wide range of exercises which improve core strength, mobility, balance and more.

What is a typical TRX session like?

The typical TRX cross-training session at Kennedy Fitness is an hour long and is taught by one of our friendly, trained instructors. Similar to some of our yoga classes in Cherry Hill, TRX workouts vary in intensity. We customize your session depending on your age, medical history, range of motion, fitness goals, and more.

How does TRX compare to traditional weight training?

TRX is a popular alternative to traditional weight training for many reasons. While weight training is excellent for improving strength and gaining muscle mass, TRX is a more efficient way to build core strength and improve balance, flexibility, muscle endurance and more. Even if you’re looking to add muscle and get stronger, you can benefit from TRX training, using the system to stay flexible and maintain a full range-of-motion as you grow.

How do I know if TRX training is right for me?

TRX training sessions are a popular option for members of Kennedy Fitness due in part to the wide choice of easy-to-learn exercises which make it accessible for individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Like our popular Zumba® classes in Cherry Hill, TRX classes are available at many of our Kennedy Fitness locations throughout the week, and members can sign up for a demonstration from one of our trained instructors.
